St. John the Evangelist is symbolized by the eagle because of the soaring heights of contemplation revealed in his writings. The Gospel of John is full of depth and symbolizing revolving around the number seven, which signifies completion or perfection. The opening chapters parallel the seven days of creation in Genesis; there are seven feast days and seven miracles, culminating in the ultimate miracle of the Resurrection and the new feast of Easter.
