the future of catholic classical education

Christ Our Light

St. Ambrose Academy Building Campaign

The Christ Our Light Campaign is less than $2 million away from reaching our full $10 million goal! Raising the full goal not only helps us establish a new school home within the iconic Holy Name Heights building in southwest Madison, but also begins to critically secure our future by creating a new and invested reserve fund to pay for the rent and operations for years to come. Holy Name is a beacon on a hill that first opened as a residential high school seminary in 1963. Several generations of young men completed their formation there before the seminary closed in 1995. Because of this legacy, there is immense value to restore the tradition of providing a powerful Catholic education on these hallowed grounds (now for young men and women!).

Our Vision and Results

Our bold mission and success in forming exemplary Christian leaders in tandem with academic excellence explains our explosive growth. We recently established a new home in the former high school seminary at Holy Name Heights to sustain and grow our impact, becoming a long-term anchor tenant and great neighbor.

Situated on over 70 acres of sprawling greenspace and conveniently accessible from the Beltline, the campus at Holy Name Heights is an ideal setting for the transformational task of educating children in the lights of reason and Catholic truth and forming them in corresponding virtue. The advantages of this solution are numerous:

— it strengthens an already close collaboration with the diocese,

— it repurposes a historic building to full and glorious utilization, and

— it provides complete facilities for a complete education

The custom-designed and purpose-driven new spaces are already helping us serve and develop students in grades 6-12 better than ever before. The fruits and ripple effect of this project are profound and will continue for decades: equipping leaders who will vigorously contribute to a free and virtuous society across every sector, motivated by the single-hearted goal to help as many reach heavenly glory.

Our First Phase to renovate 24,000 sq ft into new classrooms, learning spaces, and administrative offices cost $3.8 million and became operational in September 2024 at the start of a new school year.

Our Second Phase to renovate an additional 7,000 sq ft — including a repurposed swimming pool into a large Commons room, new reception entrance and security vestibule, and converted locker room into athletic facilities — cost $2.3 million and became operational in January 2025 at the start of the second semester.

Our Third Phase is to take a vital step forward at this juncture in the school’s history and create a first-ever Reserve Fund of $3 million, which will be invested and the earnings will help pay for ongoing rent and operations in perpetuity.

Roughly $1.3 million has already been pledged to secure this new Reserve Fund. We need additional school champions to help us get through this critical finish line!

Please contact Development Director Joseph Draves with interest or ideas for help.

We still need YOU!

Catholic education in the U.S. has the capacity to equip students with the skills needed to succeed and uplift others – and the character formation needed to live a life ordered to the true, good and beautiful.

The program at St. Ambrose Academy delivers on both. This school building project will bear extraordinary fruit now and for decades to come.

It is only with the support of hundreds that our school has reached this point, and we still need the heroic generosity of the greater community to finish this project and continue our powerful program from a position of strength.

Bishop Hying told a crowd of supporters: “I will do everything in my power to help make this project a success.Read about how he’s one of our biggest supporters!

Then please join Bishop Hying and us. The future is ours to build. Let’s build it!
