Declare Independence? The American Revolution Experience
Mark the 250th anniversary by stepping into the Revolution itself
A hands-on week of debate, trial, and discovery
Should the colonies break away from Britain? In this interactive workshop led by Mr. Kwas, students will step into the American Revolution and wrestle with the ideas that led to the United States Declaration of Independence. Through hands-on activities, they will examine the arguments, conflicts, and decisions that shaped the founding of the nation.
What students will do:
Put the British soldiers of the Boston Massacre on trial
Print pro- and anti-Stamp Act pamphlets
Map and analyze the 27 grievances in the Declaration of Independence
Participate in a “Should We Declare Independence?” debate
Create short-form videos (“Declaration Shorts”) explaining its key ideas
Visit the Wisconsin State Capitol to explore republican government and liberty
