Originally from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Sophie Lajewski is excited to return to the classroom and join the St. Ambrose Academy community. She holds a Master of Arts in Classical Education from Benedictine College, a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Political Science from Marquette University, and a Catechist Formation Certification from Christendom College.

Her teaching experience includes English Literature and Composition at Wayland Academy, tutoring high school students in English literature, and working with adults in ELA and GED programs. Over the past decade, however, her primary vocation has been raising and educating her five children alongside her husband, Larry, whom she met at Marquette University. During that time, she homeschooled her children, coached youth sports, served in parish ministries, and taught religious education – experiences that deepened her passion for education and inspired her return to teaching.

As a classical Catholic educator, Sophie believes education is about the formation of the whole person, saying “We are not simply educating students to get into college or prepare for a career; we are helping them become the people God created them to be!”

She is passionate about helping students encounter truth, goodness, and beauty through the Great Books while growing in wisdom, virtue, and faith. She is especially grateful for the opportunity to partner with parents and fellow educators at St. Ambrose in forming students who seek holiness and lifelong learning.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading great literature, organizing a parish mothers’ playgroup, and being outdoors. Whether cheering on her children at their activities, helping coach youth soccer, kayaking, hiking, or sharing meaningful conversations over a good book, she values the joy of community and lifelong learning. She looks forward to creating a classroom where students are challenged to think deeply, supported in their growth, and inspired by the enduring wisdom of the classics.
