After graduating from St. Ambrose Academy, Fr. Robert enjoyed exciting academic pursuits, ultimately earning his PhD in Physics from MIT. At the same time, Fr. Robert was continuing to discern the priesthood with Opus Dei. After a period of discernment, he moved to Rome and continued taking classes, preparing for the priestly vocation, before being ordained a deacon at Sant’ Eugenio in Rome on November 23, 2024.

After many years of preparation and prayer, Fr. Robert received the Sacrament of Holy Orders in Rome at Sant’ Eugenio on May 24, 2025. He was joined by 19 other men from a total of 11 countries.

You can read more about the Mass and view the recorded livestream at the link below as well as several images from this beautiful, long-awaited day! An excerpt from the piece:

Looking back on those years, [Marsland] recalls: “I used to help my colleagues discover God through rigorous study of creation. Now I’ll strive to continue that mission, but in a different setting, through the Word of God.”

Fr. Robert is now the second alumnus of St. Ambrose Academy to be ordained a priest. Please join the Marsland family and the community of St. Ambrose Academy in praying in thanksgiving to God for Fr. Robert as he begins his priestly ministry. As we are about to enter the month of June, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we ask, “Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make his heart like unto yours”! St. Ambrose, pray for him!
