SAA Dads’ Shooting Outing and Lunch — Saturday, October 19

An Invitation to All SAA Dads and Friends from John Gillett:

You are invited to head into the woods at 9:45 on Saturday, October 19, at the Deer Creek Sports and Conservation Club (8475 Miller Rd, Verona WI 53593) to shoot a 25-bird round of sporting clays. No gun or shooting skills are required, as dads with them can share with dads without. The cost is $20 ($10 to the club and $10 for a box of shells).

When we finish shooting around 11:00 we will go to John’s back yard (8512 Miller Rd) to cook brats over a fire for lunch. John will provide brats, beer, salad, and dessert, so you don’t need to bring anything.

If you will attend, please let John know via text 608- 692-4801 to help him and the club plan. You are welcome to attend whether or not you reply. If you have questions, feel free to text or call.

Please consider inviting your pastor!

** This is a parent-sponsored event, not an official, school-sponsored event.

More Shooting Outing Information

Here is some information for dads who might attend:

Club website: https://deercreeksportsconservation.com
Sporting clays: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sporting_clays
Video of a first shooting lesson (5:56): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Agk8B5NGnsA
Video showing where to point your gun (2:23): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3IyCiI_B7s.

Here are four standard gun safety rules:
1. Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.
2. Never let the muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
4. Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

Shooters at the club handle unloaded guns with the safety on and action open, with one exception. When it is your turn to shoot:
1. Step into the shooting station, many of which are like a 2-sided phone booth that help you keep your gun pointed down range.
2. Load the required number of shells, either one or two. Shoot at one or two clay targets.
3. Put the safety on, open the action, and unload (if you didn’t fire both shells). Step out of the station.

Ear and eye protection are required. I have earplugs to give away and a few pairs of safety glasses to share.

The Coffee Breaks — that weekly time to gather, chat and caffeinate — are moving to Wednesdays! The chief reason is so that they don’t conflict with the Masses offered Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to our students and open to parents.

Join us on Wednesdays from 7:45-8:45 at Cafe Ambrosia (the First Floor Study Area near Room 140/The Front Office) for an extraordinary Coffee Break!

Sign in with Mrs. Blahnik, grab your visitor badge and join the fun!
