Spiritual Life

Beloved Small Groups

It’s a beautiful thing the Lord has brought together.

– Penina Boros, Girls’ Small Groups Leader

Encountering the Lord in His Sacraments, Word, and in the classroom is the heart of everything we do here at St. Ambrose.

This year, the senior high girls have a new, unique opportunity to experience the Lord’s presence in small groups led by Penina Boros, a youth minister here in the Diocese of Madison. Once a week during advisory, the upper- and lowerclassman girls can meet with Penina to pray, learn about the spiritual life, and discuss joys and challenges in their walk with Christ.

The intimate setting provides the girls a chance to talk about issues that are close to their hearts. Penina said, “It’s been really beautiful to get to know some of the girls, especially the upperclassman girls. They have a lot of questions. It’s a safe place to ask these questions and gives them an opportunity to talk about things they wouldn’t necessarily talk about with teachers.”

A highlight for Penina included a moment when a girl revealed something difficult that was going on in her life and another girl asked how she could pray for her, which ended in the whole group praying together for that intention.

To date, the girls have talked about prayer and studied scripture, as well as the “I Thirst” letter from Mother Teresa. The girls pray through the texts as a group.

In addition to strengthening relationships within the classroom, Penina hopes the group will grow in their knowledge of the Lord and their relationship with Him. “I just want them to know how much Jesus loves them.”

As our school continues to grow, we’re grateful for all the ways, both inside and outside of the classroom, that give students opportunities to grow in their faith. We pray, through the intercession of St. Ambrose and Our Lady of Good Help, that they continue to actively seek the Lord and are able to live holy, happy, and fulfilling lives rooted in the joy of the Gospel!
