Come to experience the joy of opening up the Scriptures and to hear again the universal message of salvation, which is such a prominent theme of Luke’s Gospel.

Faculty Speaker Series: Exploring the Theological Depth of Flannery O’Connor with Dr. Mary Skemp

Tuesday, March 19 | 7:00-8:15 PM

English III, our Cycle III course focused on American Literature, begins with The Scarlett Letter and ends with short stories by Flannery O’Connor. The former is commonly taught in high school English classes but not commonly enthusiastically embraced by high school students. The latter are not commonly taught in high school and generally accepted to be challenging and difficult to understand.

In Dr. Skemp’s experience at St. Ambrose, she’s found that our students dive into both with curiosity and come away with a true appreciation for what both authors are trying to do in these works. In this Spotlight series evening, Dr. Skemp will discuss how our cycle curriculum provides students with the theological preparation they need to truly understand these great books.
