Patrick Carey

Science and Math

“Teaching is a shared journey. The most important thing the teacher can bring to the classroom is love. Without love for the subject matter and love for the students and their wellbeing, no teacher can be successful.”

St. Ambrose science and math students are often treated to carefully crafted, personalized curriculum from longtime science and math teacher and St. Ambrose founding member Patrick Carey. Through careful observance and care for each individual, Patrick is able to teach his students effectively, no matter their abilities or grade levels. This concern for each student’s success has earned him a great rapport with his students.

Patrick is also a textbook author and has written over forty best-selling college textbooks on subjects ranging from web page design and programming to working with Microsoft Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint. He has created video tutorials for LinkedIn and presented seminars and talks at education conferences around the country. Patrick holds a master’s in biostatistics from UW-Madison.

Patrick and his wife Joan are the proud parents of six St. Ambrose graduates and are recipients of the Louis and Zélie Martin Award. When he’s not busy teaching or writing, Patrick wants to be out on his bike, cycling the roads of Wisconsin or Colorado. He is a firm supporter of the Oxford Comma.
