Dress Like a Saint Day! | Tuesday Oct 31

On Tuesday, October 31, we are bringing back our Dress Like a Saint Day!

In honor of the Feast of All Saints, students may come to school dressed as a saint of their choosing. They should also be prepared to tell us about their saint! Modern saints & blesseds are allowed, but a word of warning: Students who use this treat as an opportunity to “dress down” will be given a demerit at the discretion of their teachers. Encourage your student to put together a great costume!

  • Girls Basketball Starts Practice on November 6
  • Mandatory Player & Parent attendance at the Preseason Meeting – Monday October 30 @ 6:30pm.

Go Challenger Athletics!

Per Benny Delgado’s email on 10/16/23:

“We DO NOT have a game on 10/17. It is a playoff to qualify to enter the tournament for the lowest seeded teams, which is not us. So for us we have practice on 10/17. It is on the schedule in case we had to play in this playoff qualifying game. Our game as shared before is against Cedar Grove Belgium at Cedar Grove Belgium High School. Kickoff is at 7pm. This will be our regional semi final. If we win this game, we will play on Saturday against the winner of Oostburg Vs. Lomira or Wayland Academy. Lomira and Wayland Academy will be playing tomorrow to qualify for the semi final Thursday against Oostburg. If Oostburg loses their semi final, we will host the final on Saturday at a time and location TBD. We will be looking to host at a HS stadium nearby in Madison and wait for WIAA to share times we can play the final on Saturday. If Oostburg wins, we will be playing Oostburg at Oostburg High School. This is assuming we win our game against Cedar Grove. If we lose against Cedar Grove on Thursday, our season will be over. Hope this all makes sense. To summarize, Thursday against Cedar Grove, TBD opponent, location, and time for the final on Saturday.”

Strategy Games Club Kick-Off
An all-time SAA favorite, Strategy Games Club is back! Join the club!  All students are welcome to stay after school and play strategy games until 4:30 on Wednesday, October 18 and 25 and Wednesdays, November 8 and 15.  Parents, please reply to the Home and School email or Facebook reminder so that we know how many students to plan on for snacks.  Bring a snack to share if you are able.

Per Benny Delgado’s email on 10/12/2023:

“Today:
Practice today is cancelled due to field conditions and the expected rain. There is nothing today, use the day to relax and enjoy an evening at home if possible. Soccer players use the time if needed to catch up on any school work or get ahead on anything.

Tomorrow:
Game for tomorrow is unfortunately off. We will be having practice indoors for a film session. We will be in a classroom inside the school. More info with that to come later on tomorrow.

As a result, JV players please turn in your blue shorts and jerseys tomorrow during that time. JV players may feel free to stay for the film session after uniform collection. Please please have uniforms turned in.”

Per the Team Linkt message from Coach Myers on 10/11/23:

“Hi all,

I am going to cancel practice for this afternoon. Between musical auditions, updated carpools because of the auditions, and a few other things, the number of athletes that will be able to attend keeps decreasing.

Thanks!

Coach Myers”

The fall diaper drive starts this week and goes until next Thu., Oct. 19. We will be collecting diapers to donate to Babies and Beyond. Diapers can be dropped off in the pack-and-play in the front entryway.

Make sure to write your house on the diapers so they can be credited to your house’s total! House points will be given based on diapers collected. The house that collects the most diapers will get desserts sponsored by Guardians for Life!

Sizes newborn, 1, 2, and 3, as well as pull ups, are needed the most, but all sizes are accepted. Open packages, baby wipes and formula are also accepted.

Hot Lunch Roll-Out
Thanks to the diligence of our monthly hot lunch crew (yay, Savanna, Ryan and Hannah!), we are ready to roll-out the monthly hot lunches that made our students and staff SO happy last year and will certainly delight them this year. The first lunch will be Monday, October 9, in coordination with our celebration of Our Lady of Champion. For the full slate lunches, the cost will be $20 per student for the whole school year, collected through FACTS; this covers the main dish and plates and utensils. You can opt out if you want by contacting Savanna Parker (savanna1434@hotmail.com).
This first lunch will be hosted by the Senior class. Senior parents, that means we need your help with serving and donating items.
Senior parents, to sign up to help the monthly hot lunch crew serve lunch AND earn volunteer hours, sign up here: St. Ambrose Academy Volunteers: SAA Home and School Connection 2023-2024 (signupgenius.com)

Per Quinn Myers Team Linkt message on 10/6/23:

“Hi all!

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone race at Albany tomorrow, hopefully the cool weather brings some fast times!

Rather than going to the Lightning Grade School meet next Saturday, we are now going to attend a middle school only meet at Verona High School on Thursday. There will not be an official practice for high schoolers, but the hope is that they come to the meet to cheer the middle schoolers on. Verona High School sits right on the Military Ridge Trail, so I will probably send all of the high schoolers that are there on a run while the middle schoolers are walking the course and warming up. The meet schedule is as follows:

4:30 – 6/7th Grade Girls

4:55 – 6/7th Grade Boys

5:20 – 8th Grade Girls

5:45 – 8th Grade Boys

We will be heading over to Verona High School right after school. I will be able to drive a school van that holds 13 kids, but we will need help with carpooling there. I’ve linked a spreadsheet here for you to sign your kids up for rides and volunteer to help drive. If you could sign up there, it would help a ton with my planning for making sure that everyone is accounted for.

Thank you!

Host – Zimmerman Family

Per Team Linkt message on 10/5/2023:

“Good morning everyone –

I’m sorry, but I think we need to cancel the spaghetti supper this week. We’re having difficulty finding an appropriate venue. We had hoped to have practice out at our place, but that won’t be possible this week.

We will happily provide snack this Saturday at Albany, with our sincerest thanks for your understanding. Is this a bribe? Maybe. 😉

Yours in Christ,
Laura Zim”

Host – Haun Family

The Haun family will be hosting the Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, Sept 15th at Walnut Grove Park (202 N Westfield Rd, Madison, WI 53717). It is about a mile from school. Runners will practice at school and carpool over to the park for dinner. Families are welcome to join! Dinner will begin around 5:00pm. Please plan to pick up your runner between 6:00-6:30pm from the park. If any parents can help carpool runners to the park from school, it would be much appreciated!

Races start at 4:00pm

Runners need to be ready to walk the course at 2:30. Those racing will be leaving service day early. They will leave directly from their service day site. Carpools have been arranged with parents also helping at service day.

Spectators will be charged $5 per person.

Boys Varsity: 4:00 pm
Girls Varsity: 4:45 pm

Practice from 5:00pm-6:15pm with dinner to follow.
